Minecraft Birthday Party

For my son’s 9th birthday, he decided he wanted a Minecraft theme. This was a lot of fun to make and he was so excited!

For the cake, we used Rice Krispy Treats which the kids thought was super cool. Due to his food allergies, we made ours from scratch but you could also buy a Rice Krispy Sheet or tray that is already made for easier prep. The best thing about making them from scratch or using a tray is that you can cut the squares any size that you would like. We used a 9 x 13 in pan, blue jello for the water, plain Rice Krispy treats for the sand, and Cocoa Rice Krispy treats with green icing for the dirt and grass. Add a few Minecraft Mini Figures like Steve and some Cows or Zombies and done!

My friend actually made this giant wall decoration made from light green, green and black square party plates. We used left over plates for the kids to gather their supplies (aka food).

She used hot glue to glue all of the plates to foam board which she also glued together. The result is in the picture. It was a great addition to the party.

I wish I could tell you how my friend made the super cute signs, but I’m not totally sure. I believe she used Google Images to cut and paste them together. However, I can tell you how I made the food.

We used..

Carrots – baby carrots
Sticks – pretzel sticks
Cookies – small chocolate chip cookies
Trap Doors- Window Pretzels
Diamonds – Blue hard candy (we bought ours at Party City, but attaching the Amazon link here in case you need a lot of them)
Emeralds – same as Diamonds, except in green
Iron – Hershey Nuggets
Gold- Hershey Nuggets
Mushrooms – these were fun, white jumbo puffy marshmallows topped with red icing and white chocolate chips.
Watermelon – watermelon taffy

Add Sprite bottles with labels peeled and turned into Creepers with a sharpie, and green party cups and a party was made!

Undertale Party Decorations – Flowey, Fisk and Napstablook -Perler Beads

Flowey and Fisk Undertale Party Decoration Canvas

This canvas is going in our Undertale Party decoration box and will be hung on the wall in our next Undertale party! We used Perler beads (aka Hama or Melty beads) to design the mound, Flowey and Fisk. Next we painted a 12 x 12 canvas black and hot glued the designs onto the canvas. The result is above! To make the decorations, our patterns are below.

Flowey

Original pixel art- Kandi Patterns. Made with green, black, white and yellow Perler beads. You can also use Hama Beads or Melty Beads. It took 6 grids to make.

Fisk

Original pixel art by Kandi Patterns. Used dark brown, blue, black, peach, and purple Perler beads.

Napstablook

This little guy will be placed on the food table. Going to tape a couple of bamboo skewers onto his back and place in a painted foam block. This will make a cute decoration!

Undertale Party Part 3 – Pet Rock Cake, Snowman Piece, Doughnuts and More

As we wrap up our Undertale Birthday Party, we found a few more photos and ideas to share. My son and friends had a great time with this party and I had a great time preparing it. Anything linked below links to Amazon or if we didn’t come up with it, the original idea.

Pet Rock Cake

Undertale Birthday Party Pet Rock Cake For this cake, we made a circular cake and tried to shape it similar to a rock. We added chocolate icing and sprinkles to make it look like the Google image (Really hope it’s from the game- kids didn’t seem to mind either way.) Printed that same Pet Rock Google image, made a table tent and done! A very easy cake! Pet Rock original idea here.

Undertale Birthday Party Spider Donuts

For this idea, we tried to recreate Pretty Cake Machines‘s idea but had a hard time. (She also has a version of the Snowman Piece below). Our result is above. For the recipe, we used store bought doughnuts instead of made from scratch. It made the recipe a lot easier but didn’t look as neat. Once again, I turned the Google Image into a table tent and Spider Doughnuts were done!

Undertale Birthday Party Snowman Piece

For our version of the Snowman piece, we used wedding cookies. We dipped them in extra powered sugar and added a couple to each cupcake liner. It was super simple and was one of the last things I put together.

Undertale Birthday Star Yogurt Parfait

For this recipe, I used an idea from Jaybug Jimmies. The link is a dead link but I found the pin here. For this idea, I used a Star cookie cutter, small cups and vanilla yogurt. I added some yogurt into different bowls with a few drops of food coloring. Once mixed, I added each color by layer into the cups.

For this decoration, we used yellow butcher paper to cut out a flower shape. My friend and her amazing drawing abilities sketched the face onto white copy paper using a black sharpie. Leaves were cut out from green paper and green streamers made up the rest.

Undertale Party Part 2- Straws, Banners, Labels and More

For this part of my party planning, I turned to a little site called Etsy. This party kit was made by Susaneda Printables in Granada, Spain. It is an instant download and I’m not sure of the current price but I paid $13.71. Once I downloaded the pdf, I was able to send the pages that I wanted to Office Depot for color copies printed on cardstock. It was a great success and I highly recommend it.

This kit allowed me to do all the following for his party. For the banners, I just used twine from the dollar store and tape.

Boy Baby Shower

Baby Boy Shower- Part 2, Fruit, Vegetables and Water

Part 2 of my sister’s baby shower includes an awesome fruit baby laying in a watermelon carriage. My friend designed this by first cutting out the watermelon to resemble a carriage. We then cut and peeled a cantaloupe in which she cut in half. Half of it upside down became the baby’s head, while the other half became pieces of his blanket, ears and nose. Add a piece of lettuce for hair, some grapes for eyes and an actual baby pacifier and you have an awesome baby head.

For the blanket, she used sliced strawberries, watermelon (from the left over part she cut away), grapes and additional cantaloupe pieces. It turned out to be a great centerpiece for the table.

After the baby carriage, we still had left over fruit so…. fruit kabobs were added to the menu. We just added the fruit in nice patterns on a bamboo skewer then laid them on a nice serving tray.

For the vegetable section of the table, I purchased a vegetable tray already prepared at Sam’s Club and a bag of peppers. (I found it cheaper than purchasing everything separately- plus the tray traveled well.)

We cut the peppers into tiny bowls, laid them on the try and filled them with the contents of the vegetable tray. I was very happy with the way it turned out.

The water that you can see in the picture above and with the picture below was super easy to make.

My kids helped with this part by removing all the water bottle labels and taping cute, decorative both small and large) ribbon in its place.

Baby Boy Shower Part 1 -Punch, Baby Deviled Eggs and Pretzel Sticks

Baby Shower Boy Punch Ducks Recently I was nominated to throw my sister a baby shower for her little boy. I immediately started combing Pinterest and the Internet for ideas and was in luck on several of them.

This punch came from http://www.brandiraae.com and was a big hit. All it needed was Blue Hawaiian Punch, Vanilla Ice Cream, Sprite and ducks! (You can check out her site if you need amounts of ingredients)

It was super easy to make. We just carried the supplies and punch bowl to the shower, and it took about 5 minutes to put together. We added a ladle and cups to and it was an instant success. I highly recommend this for your next shower.

Pretzel Sticks for Baby Boy Shower Food

Another great idea came from ourdelightfulhome.blogspot.com which is now a dead site. However, using the picture, we were able to figure out this awesome little snack. We used large pretzel rods, white candy melts, blue sprinkles, ribbon and spoon bags (found in the cake decorating aisle).

First, we laid out parchment paper and poured the blue sprinkles over the middle. Next, we melted the candy melts and used a spatula to spread the melted candy over the pretzel. Before it had time to harden, we rolled the pretzel in the blue sprinkles. Once hardened, we slid the pretzel into the bag, added a ribbon and had a nice little neat snack!

If you notice in that last picture, the cute little Chex Mix Buddies treat….. That idea came from ediblecrafts.craftgossip.com and used cute little blue polka dot cupcake liners that I bought from Party City or from Amazon here. All we did was add some Chex Mix Buddies and blue Sixlets and we had a great little snack and decoration.

Deviled Eggs Babies- Baby Shower

This idea pictured on the left came from key ingredient. com (Official recipe is linked on their site above.) These deviled eggs were made like you would normally make them, but the egg white was cut down and off the side to create a baby carriage. Cute little Vienna Sausages were added for the faces.

The recipe called for chocolate sprinkles for the eyes but I had forgotten to pick some up at the store so instead I used an edible marker to draw the eyes on. If I did it again, I would definitely try the sprinkles. The marker ran a little and made some small alien looking babies.

Overall, I would definitely use all 3 of these recipes if I found myself needing to throw another shower.

Bridging Ceremonies, Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts Bridging Cupcake Rainbow

Girl Scouts, bridging, rainbow — Cupcake Rainbow made with 60 cupcakes

We decided for our Girl Scout bridging ceremony to try cupcakes again this year. Instead of spending hours decorating and making the super cute double colors and bridge cupcakes, we decided to create a rainbow out of the cupcakes. Click here for my post with the super cute double color bridges.

My co-leaders and I started the process by using empty cupcake wrappers to create a visual of what a rainbow would look like if we had 60 cupcakes. This helped us to figure out what colors to use and how many of what color to order. (You can do this with any number of cupcakes that would fit your troop. We chose 60 because the bakery sold them in sets of 30.) We then ordered the cupcakes from Sam’s Club (30 for $15 – which was a great deal and we didn’t have to spend hours baking and coloring them) and then arranged them on bridging night in our rainbow design. Our girls wanted to try different icings and were sharing with each other to “taste the rainbow”, which sounds like a Skittle commercial. The cupcakes were a huge success with the girls.

I would definitely do this again given the chance. However, it was interesting to me that most of the adults and siblings wanted one also. Next time, I will definitely bump the order up to accommodate the adults. If you plan on doing this for your troop, you may want to order more than what you need as some of the girls wanted seconds in order to try a different color.

Undertale Theme Birthday Party – part 1 (Grillby’s Burgers, Spider Cider, Ketchup & Timmie Flakes)

This year my 11 year old wanted an Undertale Themed Birthday Party. Now with teaching and kids, I had heard of Undertale but had no idea anything specific enough to throw into a themed party. This immediately prompted my son to begin showing me the game and all kinds of interesting food that went along with the game.

One of the first things we came up with was Grillby’s and apparently he serves burgers and fries. We didn’t use the fries but we did make some super cute mini- hamburgers/cheeseburgers using meat and Hawaiian Rolls as bread!

Another treat that we found was something called Timmie Flakes – one of the boys literally grabbed one and ran shouting, “Timmie Flakes, Timmie Flakes.” We just used small containers with lids (found at Wal-Mart or at Amazon here) and loaded them full with Frosted Flakes. Printed a sign from Google Images (again any will do) and put them on a tray. Super super easy!

For some drinks – we made Spider Cider and Ketchup. (I have no idea but apparently it’s a thing). For Spider Cider – we just poured Apple Juice into a jug and added some Halloween spiders to float around inside. Ketchup was made using Hawaiian Punch which is so much better to drink! Added some Google image signs and we had some drinks!

Gaming Party -Part 2 – Drinks, Cake, Decorations and More

Zelda was another major game in my son’s life. We have played all of them and have spent many hours and days enjoying this game. Of course, we had to throw some Zelda decorations in!

My friend is quite talented and pulled the picture of the “Will Cut Grass for Rupees” sign from another birthday party. I believe she may have gotten the idea from here. (Zelda Birthday Party) She used poster board and markers to make the sign below. I made the green, red and blue jello cups to represent the Chu Jellies and my husband made the cool label below.

Since we were in an arcade and it was a gaming theme, the small cups on the side held chocolate quarters which represented the tokens for the games. Each kid got a chocolate token cup to eat or take home.

Zelda Themed Chu Jellies

We served Hawaiian Punch for drinks. To add some Zelda to it, my husband made these labels to represent the Health & Mana. The canister set was bought at Wal-Mart (Pioneer Woman – but any will do)

Special thanks to this amazing blog for giving me the following idea. To make this banner, I googled images of 8-bit Zelda heart containers. Using Microsoft Publisher, I made the heart large and sent the image to Office Depot. They printed the image out on card stock so all I had to do was cut out the hearts, and glue some twine onto the back. I used a wii remote to estimate how far between each heart. The result is below.

With a Zelda throw in complete, it was time for some Pac-Man decorations! What gaming party would be complete without Pac-Man?? My son and I played this quite a bit when he was younger. So our cake and table was set up using white cupcakes as the pellets, and yellow cupcakes as the power pellets. We put a yellow cupcake on the corner of the tables. The cake was set up as Pac-Man eating the pellets. We even put 18 candles inside the 18 cupcakes so he had to blow them all out around the table!

To make the cake, I just baked a circle cake and cut a triangle out of it. I used chocolate cake mix and frosted the outside yellow. The result is below.

The rest of the table

With some Nerdy Nummies Gameboy Ice Cream Sandwiches (I forgot to get a picture, they were gone so fast, however I am attaching her link here) and some Hershey wrapped Super Nintendo candy bars, the decorations and food were complete. (The Hershey bars were made with a Super Nintendo image printed out large and taped around a Hershey bar)

The kids loved seeing all of the games that they grew up with and my 18 year old son was super happy.

Lego Birthday

Lego Birthday Party Food

So.. Your child wants a Lego Birthday party and you need some food. Here are a few of the ideas that I used. I hope they will be useful.

Lego Brownies

These brownies were made from a box mix (nothing too fancy), topped with chocolate frosting and M & M’s upside down to form the studs of the Legos. My son and I made different sizes so we could have 2 x 3 brownie bricks and 1 x 3 bricks.

Stud Bowls

These bowls full of Lego studs were colored Skittles. We bought a big bag from Sam’s club and my son had fun sorting them into the bowls by color. The last bowl was some Rainbow Twizzlers cut into half to add to the color.

Chu Jellies

My son wanted a Nintendo theme incorporated, as he is always building Nintendo characters out of Legos. This is a Zelda Windwaker throwback where each of the jellies in the cups were Chu Jellies. (Plus the color scheme looked great with the Legos.)

Gummy Candy

These were a huge hit. I bought Lego molds from the Lego store (you can also get them online at Amazon and Ebay) and followed a great tutorial from Grant Thompson. His youtube tutorial is below. I used Jolly Rancher Jello to give it a little extra flavor. The candy apple was my favorite!

Cheese Crackers

The easiest food item of all. Slices of cheese on top of rectangular club crackers. The result- small blocks.

Lego Cake

This one was interesting and fun to create. My son has food allergies so I had to substitute ¼ cup apple sauce for each egg. The result was that it fell apart pretty easy. However, if you follow the Betty Crocker recipe for the cake- you should have better luck. The Youtube link for their tutorial video is below.

Napkin & Silverware Containers

My son built these holders out of Legos. I sanitized them and put 3 different colors to blend in with everything else.

Marshmallow Lego Heads

One of my best friends actually made these for his party using a recipe from brendid.com. She used a styrofoam brick painted red and stuck in each of the Lego heads. It was a great centerpiece for the table. She also put some in a mason jar full of Skittles.

I won’t lie, everything took me quite awhile to put all of this together, but it was a fun and a labor of love. My son and his friends loved the results. If you use any of these ideas, add a comment below. I would love to hear how your party turned out.
